Fund-raising sadness as cancer girl dies

A DARTMOUTH Karate Club team’s fundraising effort has been left touched with sadness after the young girl they were raising money for tragically died.

Club members managed to raise more than £1,000 to help Ellen Kinsella, the six-year-old daughter of an Exmouth Karate Club member who was suffering from a rare and aggressive brain tumor.

The money was to have been used to ensure Ellen’s parents could visit her in the London hospital where she was being treated.

But tragically the youngster died and the money ended up being used partly for her funeral and the rest went to a charity linked to her medical condition.

The club held a sponsored hour long fighting session at the town’s leisure centre to raise the money. A club spokesman said: ‘We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their hard work and sponsorship, however we were sad to hear the recent passing of Ellen and our support and thoughts are with her parents and we are sure these funds will be used to help.
